WANTON AGENTS LOCALIZE DESIGN OPPORTUNITIES - W.A.L.D.O.
Sonder: "The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own- populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries, and inherited craziness."
This project touches on the links associated with sonder specifically through the prism of Detroit's Eastern Market. 'Agents', seemingly selected at random, are analyzed and then categorized. Their specific story has been investigated but the actors are woven back into the fabric that is the Eastern Market only to be discovered once again. The actors within W.A.L.D.O. only fractionally represent the active Saturday population within the market. Seven actors are investigated, interviewed, and partially understood, the tapestry of their existence is integrated with and to the other participants in the scene through proximity, scenarios, interests, and fate. Perhaps by finding the actors in W.A.L.D.O. we locate more than a iconic (slightly celebratory) discovery, perhaps we also heighten our own ability to understand sonder and to understand ourselves.
