HAWAII STATE HOSPITAL
Hawaii is a beautiful island with a rich history and breath taking views. This project was not about beautiful vistas but behavior health. We proposed two different designs each of which properly and adequately addressed: the program requirements, security, patient well being, staff comfort, site, budget, and context.
Although the client’s primary concern was safety, our team attempted to go beyond this one facet and truly put ourselves in the shoes of the patient. Each design was user centered; the team understood that behavioral health is closely linked to environment, and an environment created without considering the patient experience would not be beneficial to anyone.
